From Dream to Nightmare – 6 Foolish Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Wedding

July 28, 2011

It is every girl’s dream to have a fantasy wedding – white dress, doves and music. This seems to be the most classic dream at least. Most of the time, weddings happen without a hitch and everyone goes home happy. But sometimes, because of one or many reasons, weddings can go from dreams to nightmares. Below are 6 foolish mistakes that can ruin your wedding. Read them, think about them and remember them – you could one day stumble across a situation when you need to heed my advice and actually use it. Your wedding could depend on it!

1. Not setting aside enough time to plan the wedding

Weddings are usually not just small family get-togethers – they are grand events and ceremonies. When you get engaged to your significant other make a game plan for the time between when they propose and when you will get married. Make sure you have plenty of time to make big decisions, find your wedding dress and invite your guests. They should have plenty of time to make their own accommodations to be there on one of the most important days of your life.

2. Not hiring some help

A lot of couples decide that they will try and save money by not hiring help or even asking for it from friends/relatives. This is a big mistake! The last thing anyone wants to see is a stressed-out bride and groom. When you’re planning your wedding make sure you get help with the flower decisions, the dress and even the music selection. It could make the planning process go much smoother.

3. Failing to create a budget

This is a mistake that many couples make when they plan a wedding. They figure that they will simply be frugal in all their decisions – if they do that, how could they possibly spend too much on the wedding? Very easily is the answer to that question. Creating a budget before you start planning the wedding will help you weed out things that you might want but don’t need. This will leave room for things that you must have for the wedding to be successful.

4. Not including your significant other in the planning

Many brides oftentimes take it upon themselves to do all the wedding planning without even asking their groom to help. Obviously, many men would have no problem with this. Some men truly want to help in the wedding planning process though. The wedding is a celebration of combining two people into one bond; it would make sense for the style of the wedding to reflect the personality of both the bride and the groom.

5. Lack of a backup plan

Many brides who have outdoor weddings fail to have a backup plan because they think, “it would never rain on my wedding day!” Well, Mother Nature does not always cooperate. As such, it is prudent to have a backup plan just in case it rains on the day of the wedding or if Mother Nature comes knocking on your door in some other way.

6. Being inconsiderate to your guests

Your guests are taking time out of their lives and are spending money out of their own pockets to spend you special day with you. Make sure you make their lives easier by accommodating them when you have a destination wedding or not making them wear a particular color/article of clothing/etc. The wedding party, on the other hand, is a different story. Make sure you give them something interesting to wear!
